Design Architect Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibility of a Design Architect may vary depending on the type of project they are hired for, but there are some main duties common to the occupation. A review of current job listings identified the following primary tasks and responsibilities.

Provide Design Consultation

Design Architects are involved in the design and specifications of projects. They use their expertise to evaluate their client’s expectations and needs and then develop ideas for the structure. They may be required to do research into local and federal laws and building codes. They may also confer with other architects and designers to create a design plan to present to the client.

Develop Models

Creating design models is another responsibility of the Design Architect. They may craft sketches or blueprints or use computer design software programs to build models. They may be required to edit and adjust these plans multiple times until the client is satisfied with the design.

Present Findings

Design Architects must be comfortable presenting ideas, models and plans to their clients. This may be in informal settings, but may also require more formal presentations to larger groups. Design Architects should be confident speakers and know how to best illustrate their vision to clients.

What is the architectural design?

Architectural design is a discipline that focuses on covering and meeting the needs and demands, to create living spaces, using certain tools and especially, creativity. Therefore, the aim is to combine the technological and the aesthetic, despite the general belief that architecture is only a technological task.

In the same way, it mixes design, understood as the creative process, and architecture, which is based on the creation and presentation of solutions at a technical level.By mixing both disciplines, architectural design seeks the values and formal qualities of the works, through spatial experiences. In general, we associate it with drawings, sketches or outlines of a project, and it is one of its fundamental basis. In this aspect of architectural design, there are also other factors involved, that are related to geometry, space or aesthetics, among others. After all, architecture, and therefore architectural design, is made up of many elements and processes or phases.

Architect & Design

What does an architect do?

Architects are licensed professionals who are trained in the science and art of building design. They are responsible for the design and construction of buildings and other structures that are erected and used in various settings.

Developing architecture that best aligns with a client's needs
Overseeing architectural projects to ensure functional and high-quality design
Producing blueprints for a project
Composing predesign figures that may include cost analysis, land studies and the environmental impact of a structure
Finding and obtaining construction contracts and coordinating with construction workers

Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.
